Overview

  • The 21-year-old former student carried out a seven-minute shooting spree at BORG Dreierschützengasse, using a Mercury double-barreled shotgun and a Glock 19 handgun before taking his own life.
  • Investigators found a detailed handwritten note and discarded sketches for a pipe bomb at his home but have not determined a clear motive.
  • He legally purchased the shotgun in early April and the handgun in late May after passing a mandatory psychological evaluation and practiced at a Graz shooting club five times since March.
  • Authorities describe him as a withdrawn, introverted individual with no confirmed friends or social media presence who did not complete his studies at the school.
  • Austria has declared three days of national mourning and international leaders, including the King, have sent condolences to the victims’ families.
