Overview

  • The search began June 2 and will cover about 20 plots within a 20–30 kilometre radius of Praia da Luz through June 6, with the possibility of extension if new evidence emerges.
  • Teams are focusing on wells, ruins and areas surrounding Brueckner’s former residence using radar equipment that scans up to five metres below ground.
  • Germany’s Federal Criminal Police and Federal Prosecutor’s Office are leading the investigation in coordination with the Portuguese Polícia Judiciária.
  • Christian Brueckner remains in a German prison serving a seven-year sentence for a 2005 rape in the Algarve and could be released in September if no fresh charges are filed.
  • British police are aware of the operation but are not directly involved while Madeleine McCann’s parents continue to hope for conclusive findings.
