Overview
- West Kelowna Fire Rescue and BC Wildfire Service deployed helicopters and ground crews to two small wildfires near the scar of the 2023 McDougall Creek fire, containing both without injuries or evacuations.
- The first blaze was reported before 11 a.m. on Aug. 13 and a second separate fire ignited around 3 p.m. roughly 500 metres away, each displaying Rank 1 and Rank 2 fire behavior.
- RCMP and provincial wildfire investigators are treating the incidents as suspected human-caused after residents and social media posts reported fireworks near the ridge between 10:30 and 10:47 p.m. on Aug. 12.
- A UTV believed to have been used to discharge the fireworks has been located, and authorities have opened investigations under file numbers 2025-47891 and 2025-47956.
- Officials are asking anyone with information on the fireworks activity to contact West Kelowna RCMP at 250-768-2880 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
