Overview

• The unidentified victim, a man in his 70s, was last seen around 10:30 p.m. Friday near North Point Marina in Winthrop Harbor, Illinois.
• Winthrop Harbor Fire Department crews responded to reports of a possible missing person in the water at approximately 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
• Dive and side-scan sonar teams from Illinois and Wisconsin joined local fire, rescue and law enforcement personnel in an exhaustive search of the marina.
• Responders located the man’s remains beneath a dock at about 8:45 p.m. Saturday and recovered his body shortly thereafter.
• Authorities have withheld the victim’s identity and are coordinating across jurisdictions to investigate the circumstances of his death.
