Investigators Detail Nationwide CCTV Hack: 50,000 Clips Stolen, Suspects Charged After Rajkot Hospital Breach

Police say unchanged default passwords on internet-facing cameras enabled the theft and sale of intimate hospital footage.

Overview

  • Authorities traced the breach to Payal Maternity Hospital in Rajkot, where a factory password such as 'admin123' let attackers access gynecology-ward cameras.
  • Investigators say at least 80 CCTV dashboards across roughly 20 states were compromised, spanning hospitals, schools, offices, factories, cinema halls and private homes.
  • Teaser clips on YouTube channels directed viewers to paid Telegram groups, where stolen videos sold for about ₹700 to ₹4,000 per clip.
  • The alleged ringleader Parit Dhameliya used tools including suIP.biz, Masscan and SWC, while an aide accessed feeds via the legitimate DMSS app using stolen logins.
  • Police arrested multiple suspects in February 2025 under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the IT Act, yet investigators found clips continued circulating on Telegram until at least June.
