Investigative Committee Takes Over Probe Into Nine Newborn Deaths at Novokuznetsk Maternity Hospital

Federal watchdogs have begun coordinated inspections and lab testing following the ward’s closure for sanitation.

  • From December 1 to January 11, the facility handled 234 deliveries; 17 newborns were in extremely critical condition, 16 were preterm, four remain in intensive care and others were transferred for specialist care.
  • Roszdravnadzor and Rospotrebnadzor teams, led by Alla Samoylova, are conducting checks as lawmakers seek audits of equipment spending and compliance, noting more than 100 prior inspections with violations recorded.
