Investigation Underway into Death of Jewish Protester, Paul Kessler, Hit during California Pro-Israel Counter-Protest

Witness claims attacker used megaphone to assault Paul Kessler before fatal fall, authorities yet to arrest or charge anyone but confirm that they have a known suspect.

  • Paul Kessler, a Jewish man, died following a conflict at a California protest between pro-Israel and pro-Palestinian demonstrators. A witness states that Kessler was stalked by an aggressor who used a megaphone as a weapon.
  • No arrests have been made, but the police have detained a 50-year old man from Moorpark briefly while executing a house search. This suspect was also identified by the authorities as being cooperative and has reportedly confessed to being involved in an altercation with Kessler.
  • Witness Jonathan Oswaks, who also attended the protest, claims that the aggressor first approached him with the megaphone before moving on to Kessler. Oswaks describes seeing a punch thrown and the megaphone flying through the air before Kessler fell and sustained severe injuries.
  • The incident is currently being treated as a potential homicide and hate crime by the Ventura County Sheriff's Department. An autopsy revealed that Kessler's head injuries were consistent with a fall, but there were also nonlethal injuries on his face, suggesting he might have taken a blow.
  • The incident has sparked concern and grief in the Southern California Jewish community, with calls for a thorough investigation from organizations like the Anti-Defamation League and the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles.
