Investigation Underway After Rail Worker Electrocuted Near Torreblanca

Authorities have opened an inquiry following union claims of a safety protocol breach.

Overview

  • The 30-year-old died around 4:00 a.m. while working on the catenary in the Torreblanca area during maintenance on the Les Palmes–Ulldecona section.
  • Adif and the regional emergency coordination center confirmed the fatal electrocution, and officials say the causes are under investigation.
  • According to the CGT union, the worker had only three days with the company and lacked prior experience in this type of work.
  • CGT alleges he was instructed to climb a pole on the opposite track to take a measurement without verifying the absence of electrical tension, which would contravene mandatory protocol.
  • The emergency center recorded the death by electrocution but has not specified whether it is officially classified as an occupational accident.
