Tesla has pledged to replace destroyed vehicles after LAFD crews cleared the scene of the Saturday blaze, with all lanes now open.

Tesla EVs on car carrier burn down

Overview

  • LAFD and partner agencies used Class B foam, Thermo-Gel and sand to extinguish the fire and declared it out roughly four hours after flames erupted around 5:35 p.m. on Saturday
  • California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert and closed multiple lanes in Sylmar as crews managed hazardous runoff and debris removal along the southbound 5 Freeway
  • Tesla Supply-Chain VP Roshan Thomas said the third-party diesel tractor-trailer caught fire first and confirmed six of the eight Teslas on board were destroyed
  • No injuries were reported and the semi-truck driver escaped unharmed despite the intensity of the blaze that consumed the trailer and several electric vehicles
  • The Los Angeles Fire Department has not yet determined an official cause and its investigation into the origin of the ignition remains active as of Monday afternoon
