Overview

• A late-night fire at a block of maisonettes on Lewisham Road in southeast London killed a 12-year-old boy and injured a 54-year-old woman, whose injuries are not life-threatening.
• London Fire Brigade mobilised ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters to tackle the blaze for over two hours, declaring it under control at 2:02 am on July 9.
• The ground-and-first-floor maisonette was destroyed and a flat above plus part of the building’s external fascia sustained damage.
• London Fire Brigade and Metropolitan Police are jointly investigating the origin of the blaze, which is not being treated as suspicious.
• Lewisham Road remains closed between Penrose Way and Lewisham Hill while authorities clear the scene and provide specialist support to affected families.
