Intruder Who Spent 20 Days at IIT Bombay Granted Bail

  • Bilal Teli infiltrated IIT Bombay hostels on two occasions in June and attended AI and robotics lectures by posing as a doctoral student.
  • Powai police filed an FIR on June 17 for trespassing, formally arrested him on June 24 and transferred the case to the Crime Intelligence Unit, adding forgery charges.
  • Investigations by the Intelligence Bureau and Anti-Terrorism Squad found no evidence of a national security threat and described his intrusion as driven by academic curiosity.
  • His defense lawyers highlighted a diagnosed learning disability affecting his attention and memory and argued that procedural lapses in detention and arrest violated his rights.
  • IIT Bombay has since strengthened entry protocols and surveillance and the court will hold further hearings to determine the final outcome.
