Overview

  • Operations at the Savannah mill, a nearby packaging facility, and the Riceboro mill will wind down in phases with production ceasing by Sept. 30, 2025.
  • About 800 jobs in Savannah and 300 in Riceboro are slated for elimination, and the company says eligible employees will receive severance and outplacement support.
  • International Paper will invest $250 million to convert its Riverdale mill in Selma, Alabama, to produce containerboard, and says the changes will reduce capacity by roughly one million tons.
  • The company agreed to sell its pulp division to American Industrial Partners for $1.5 billion and forecasts a $700 million to $900 million accounting charge tied to that business.
  • Local officials pledged assistance for affected workers as timber suppliers and port-linked logistics prepare for knock-on effects from the closures.
