International Conference on Voter Registration Opens in Ranchi

Organisers plan to use findings from 57 research papers and technical sessions to recommend reforms that improve inclusion, digitisation, accuracy of electoral rolls

Overview

  • The two-day conference began Wednesday, Sept 2, 2026 at the National University of Study and Research in Law in Ranchi and is being run by the Jharkhand CEO office with academic partners.
  • Organisers received 230 abstracts, shortlisted 80, and selected 57 research papers that are being presented across subject‑wise technical sessions.
  • Panels and presentations focus on the administrative, legal, social and technical steps needed to reduce duplicates and fake entries, strengthen digital roll systems and make registration more inclusive for migrants, tribal communities and women voters.
  • A printed volume titled 'Voter Registration and Voter Registers' and a conference souvenir were released at the inaugural session and organisers say the conference conclusions will feed practical changes to election management.
  • The event was held under the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s nationwide directive and could shape how states run voter drives and the ongoing Special Intensive Revision by promoting standard practices and human verification alongside technology.
