International Big Cat Alliance Endorses Bhupender Yadav as President at Inaugural Delhi Assembly

With its headquarters agreement ratified, the IBCA now has a governance framework to coordinate conservation strategies for seven big cat species.

Overview

  • The assembly unanimously endorsed Bhupender Yadav as president and S.P. Yadav as director general of the IBCA.
  • Delegates from nine member countries, including Bhutan, Cambodia, Eswatini, Guinea, Liberia, Suriname, Somalia and Kazakhstan, attended the inaugural session.
  • The body approved a comprehensive work plan, detailed rules of procedure and staff and financial regulations to guide its operations.
  • It endorsed the outcomes of the first International Steering Committee meeting held in April 2024, cementing earlier strategic decisions.
  • India pledged to share its Project Tiger expertise with all 95 member nations to address poaching, habitat loss and human-wildlife conflict.
