Overview
- Intermountain formally announced the relocation on Wednesday and said its board approved the project last week to move LDS Hospital from the Avenues to the roughly 8‑acre former Sears block near 754 S. State.
- Plans filed with Salt Lake City show a multibuilding medical campus with the main hospital tower reaching about 200–208 feet and include public renderings submitted last month.
- The system hopes to break ground before the end of 2026 pending remaining city approvals and estimates construction will take three to five years once started.
- Intermountain says the new hospital will house trauma and critical care, women’s services, pediatrics, oncology and behavioral health, and Salt Lake County leaders have asked the city to require expanded inpatient behavioral health capacity.
- Intermountain has not decided the long‑term use of the century‑old Avenues campus and says some services may remain there, and city officials secured designated space on the new site for the taco‑cart vendors that operate on the block.
