Interagency Forces Repel Attack in Rural Culiacán, Seize Arsenal and Destroy IED

Authorities say the actions form part of a broader campaign to curb weapons and explosives in Sinaloa.

Overview

  • On Sept. 28, an interagency team conducting a ground reconnaissance near the Caminaguato community north of Culiacán came under fire.
  • Security personnel repelled the aggression and reduced three suspected armed civilians at the scene.
  • Recovered materiel included six long guns, 81 magazines, usable cartridges, 12 tactical vests, 24 ballistic plates and other gear.
  • An improvised explosive device found at the site was neutralized and destroyed by the specialized explosives unit.
  • All seized items were placed with the Federal Public Ministry for investigation, and a separate sweep in Guadalupe Victoria recovered an abandoned long gun, a magazine and about 30 cartridges.
