Interactive Brokers Launches Ethereum Staking With Zero Hash Custody

Eligible clients can stake ETH through IBKR’s Client Portal using Zero Hash custody which exposes users to third‑party custody and network risks.

Overview

  • Interactive Brokers launched the staking service Oct. 13, adding an ETH Staking Dashboard to its Client Portal so eligible Interactive Brokers LLC clients can request staking or unstaking and track pending activity.
  • Zero Hash provides the staking infrastructure and holds staked ETH in customer accounts rather than IBKR custodied accounts, so those crypto balances are not covered by the Securities Investor Protection Corporation.
  • Staking rewards are paid as additional staked ETH that can compound while assets remain staked, but reward rates are variable and neither guaranteed nor fixed.
  • Interactive Brokers and Zero Hash deduct fees from rewards with reports showing a combined cap of 30% of rewards and no fee if the stake earns nothing, and clients remain exposed to validator risks such as downtime and slashing as well as unstake delays.
  • The rollout builds on IBKR’s broader crypto push and its prior commercial ties to Zero Hash, including leading a 2025 funding round, and it raises a regulatory watch item because Zero Hash has filed for trust‑bank charters that could change custody oversight.
