Overview
- Law enforcement in multiple states seized very large consignments this week, including Assam’s recovery of about 2,098 kg of ganja and Chhattisgarh’s 400 kg haul, with several people arrested and NDPS cases registered.
- Central and local units also intercepted sizeable opioid and hashish shipments, with the CBN seizing 18.64 kg of crude heroin near Lucknow, Amritsar police recovering 6.3 kg of heroin alongside nine pistols, Mumbai police seizing 302 g of heroin, and the NCB Chennai unit arresting a couple with 3 kg of hashish.
- Investigations show traffickers used varied concealment and transport methods such as hollow fuel tanks, goods hidden under fertiliser sacks, air‑carry bags and tarpaulins and moved consignments along major highway and rail corridors linked to Odisha and the Northeast.
- Police reports point to organised networks exploiting vulnerable couriers, including a juvenile detained in Hyderabad with 48 kg of ganja and seven students in Krishna district arrested for trading stolen bikes for ganja, with several alleged organisers currently absconding.
- Authorities say follow‑up raids and manhunts are under way to map interstate and transnational links, trace financiers and foreign handlers, and identify overlaps with illegal arms trafficking that emerged in some seizures.
