Instituto Cervantes Receives Original ‘Un Mundo Para Julius’ Typescript at Lima Tribute

An author-corrected typescript found in Julio Ramón Ribeyro’s Paris apartment now enters the Cervantes archive for researchers.

Overview

  • Luis García Montero formally received the machine-typed original during a public homage to Alfredo Bryce Echenique at San Marcos University in Lima.
  • The document joins the Caja de las Letras, expanding the Bryce legacy first deposited at the Cervantes in 2019.
  • Ángel Esteban discovered the typescript in the former Paris home of Julio Ramón Ribeyro, after which Ribeyro’s son authorized the donation.
  • The original comprises about 458 pages typed in the late 1960s with corrections in Bryce Echenique’s hand.
  • Cervantes says the item will support study of the novel’s revision process before its 1970 publication by Editorial Barral.
