• A 19-year-old buyer was shot three times in the chest during a June 24 Instagram transaction for $320 of illegal THC vape pens.
• After seizing the cash, 20-year-old seller Alejandro Carrasco Jr. allegedly shot Esparza and then accidentally wounded his own foot while fleeing.
• Authorities traced Carrasco through surveillance footage and a neighbor’s eyewitness account and identified him by his black shirt, khaki pants, and vehicle.
• He was arrested at Medical City ER where he sought treatment for the self-inflicted foot wound and remains under police guard.
• Esparza underwent emergency surgery for kidney, liver, and stomach injuries and is in stable but critical condition as Carrasco awaits jail transport.
