Overview
- Instagram disclosed on Monday and Tuesday that it has begun limited tests of a product called Features with select creators in Brazil and the United States.
- Features lets creators upload horizontal videos as long as 90 minutes, a clear shift from Instagram’s prior emphasis on short vertical Reels.
- The product links short Reels clips to the full horizontal episode so viewers can tap a Reel and continue watching the complete video inside the app.
- Meta has recently rolled out native Instagram apps for Apple TV, Google TV, Samsung and Amazon Fire TV and says Features is being refined with an eye toward those TV experiences.
- Executives say the move aims to keep creators and advertisers on Instagram by lengthening viewing sessions and making video podcasts and episodic shows easier to host and monetize.
