Overview

  • The Instagram Map is off by default and updates only when users open the app, letting them share their last active location with friends, Close Friends, selected contacts or no one.
  • A native repost button for public posts and Reels credits original creators and collects reshared content in a dedicated tab on user profiles.
  • The globally launched Friends tab in Reels highlights what contacts have posted or interacted with and offers Blend-based personalized recommendations.
  • Parental supervision controls now notify guardians when teens enable location sharing and allow parents to manage who their children share their whereabouts with.
  • Privacy and safety advocates warn that location sharing could attract stalkers or endanger users, prompting calls for clear opt-out settings and robust safeguards.
