On October 29, Instagram users globally reported issues with sending and receiving direct messages, as tracked by Downdetector.
The outage began around 5:14 PM IST, with over 2,000 reports in the UK and nearly 1,000 in the US.
Many users took to X, formerly Twitter, to confirm the outage and share memes under the hashtag #InstagramDown.
Reports indicated that 48% faced application problems, 27% had content-sharing issues, and 25% experienced server troubles.
Meta, Instagram's parent company, has not yet released an official statement on the cause of the outage.
