Instagram Lets Users Replace Music on Published Posts

The change keeps existing likes and comments when swapping songs, making it easier for creators to refresh posts for trends.

Overview

  • Instagram rolled out the Replace Audio tool on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, which lets users swap the music on feed posts and carousels without deleting the post.
  • Replacing a track preserves a post’s existing likes, comments, shares and reach so creators do not lose engagement when they change a song.
  • To use the feature, open a post, tap the two-line menu at the top right, choose Edit, then select Original audio or Replace Audio to pick a new track from Instagram’s library.
  • Meta says the update is meant to give creators more control and help content stay current, and the launch comes after the company removed a recent AI photo-editing feature that drew criticism.
  • Instagram first added music to feed posts in 2022, and this editability removes the old tradeoff that forced users to delete and re-upload posts to change a soundtrack.
