Instagram Lets Users Replace Audio on Published Posts

The global Replace Audio rollout gives creators a way to refresh or monetize older feed posts and carousels without deleting them.

Overview

  • Instagram announced the Replace Audio tool on Tuesday and began a global rollout this week so people can swap the soundtrack on already-published feed posts and carousels.
  • To change a track users open the post, tap More Options, choose Edit, then select Replace Audio or Original audio to pick a new song from Instagram’s library.
  • Replacing audio preserves a post’s existing likes, comments, shares and reach so creators and brands do not need to delete and reupload content to update its music.
  • Instagram says creators can swap audio an unlimited number of times and that changing a post’s soundtrack does not give the post an algorithmic boost, according to company representatives.
  • The feature is part of a string of creator-focused updates intended to help creators refresh and repurpose content for trends or sponsorships and to compete with rival short-video platforms.
