Instagram Expands Teen Accounts with Enhanced Safety Features to India

Meta introduces stricter privacy controls, time management tools, and parental oversight for Instagram users under 16 in one of its largest markets.

Instagram Teen Accounts, initially launched in the U.S., U.K., Canada, and Australia, are now being rolled out in India to improve online safety for users under 16.
The accounts include default private settings, restricted messaging, and content filters to limit exposure to sensitive or harmful material.
Parents can supervise their teen's account by approving changes to safety settings, setting daily screen-time limits, and blocking access during specific hours.
Teens will receive reminders to exit the app after 60 minutes of daily usage, and sleep mode will mute notifications between 10 PM and 7 AM.
Meta is implementing stricter age verification methods, including ID checks and video selfies, to prevent minors from bypassing safety settings.
