Overview
- The Map feature is now available in India, extending a rollout that began in the United States and Canada in August 2025.
- A persistent status indicator at the top of the Map now shows sharing status, with another indicator under the profile photo in the Notes tray to signal when location is not being shared.
- Instagram removed profile photos from location‑tagged content on the Map to make clear that tagging a place does not reveal someone’s live location.
- Users will see an educational reminder when adding a location tag and a preview of how that content will appear on the Map before posting.
- Location sharing remains opt in, limited to selected friends as a last active location, and can be turned off at any time while Map browsing of friends’ and creators’ posts continues regardless of sharing status.
