InsiderAdvantage Shows Trump at 50% as Gallup, Averages Keep Him Underwater

Method differences, timing quirks, undecided voters drive the split.

Overview

  • InsiderAdvantage’s Dec. 19–20 survey of 800 likely voters found 50% approval, 41% disapproval and 9% undecided, a net +9 that marks a rebound from 44% approval in November.
  • Pollster Matt Towery credited recent gains to independents, younger voters and women, while noting an unusually large share of undecided respondents.
  • Gallup’s Dec. 1–15 national poll put Trump at 36% approval and roughly 23 points underwater overall, with independents rating him about 43 points negative.
  • Most national trackers still show Trump below 50% approval, including RealClearPolitics’ average near 44% approve and 53% disapprove, and other pollsters reporting declines through December.
  • Gallup also reports erosion in perceived leadership strength, with 48% now calling Trump “strong and decisive,” down from 59% in 2017, underscoring reputational headwinds heading into the 2026 midterms.
