The long-range deployment underscores India’s push to deepen naval interoperability across the Indo-Pacific.

Overview

  • During the sea phase of JAIMEX-25 from October 16–18 west of Kyushu, the frigate trained with JS Asahi, JS Oumi and submarine Jinryu, with support from the JGSDF and JASDF.
  • The Japan exercise featured high-end anti-submarine and missile-defence drills, flying operations and underway replenishment to strengthen operational coordination.
  • Earlier on October 13 in Busan, INS Sahyadri took part in the inaugural IndiaRepublic of Korea Navy exercise, conducting harbour and sea phases with ROKS Gyeongnam that included cross-deck visits and joint drills.
  • Indian officials emphasize that the indigenously built Shivalik-class frigate, commissioned in 2012 and based at Visakhapatnam, is projecting India’s role as a responsible maritime stakeholder and preferred security partner.
