Inquiry Opens After Fatal Light-Plane Crash Near Roquefort-la-Bédoule

An investigation is underway following rescuers' identification of the victim as a passenger.

Overview

  • The small touring aircraft went down late Saturday in the massif above Roquefort-la-Bédoule near the Pas d’Oullier, with three people aboard.
  • Rescue services later clarified that a passenger died, while the pilot and another man in their forties were hospitalized at Marseille's La Timone, one in serious condition.
  • The Marseille branch of the Gendarmerie of Air Transport has opened the inquiry with assistance from the BEA, and the cause has not been determined.
  • The flight departed the Salon-Eyguières aerodrome, and local reporting says it may have attempted to turn back because of deteriorating weather and nightfall, a point not yet confirmed by investigators.
  • Firefighters and a Samu helicopter secured the site and urged the public to keep access routes clear, and authorities reported no homes were struck.
