Investigators could not determine how the sports car became unsupported.

Overview

  • John Philip Waterson, 65, was found under his small sports car at his Langton, County Durham home on June 23.
  • He had raised the vehicle with a jack and axle stands to work beneath it, but those devices were not under the car when crews arrived.
  • A full fire service crew lifted the vehicle to reach him, and a Great North Air Ambulance doctor pronounced him dead at 3:30pm.
  • A post-mortem recorded crush injuries to the head and chest with the most significant injury to his heart, and toxicology found no alcohol or drugs.
  • Assistant Coroner James Thompson recorded an accidental death at Crook Coroner’s Court, noting the precise cause of the support failure remains unknown.
