Inquest Reveals Harassment Contributed to Soldier's Death

Testimony and evidence link harassment by senior officers to the 2021 death of 19-year-old Gunner Jaysley Beck.

Gunner Jaysley Beck, 19, was found dead in her Army living quarters in December 2021, with harassment identified as a contributing factor in her death.
An inquest heard that Battery Sergeant Major Michael Webber allegedly pinned Beck down and attempted to kiss her during a team-building exercise in July 2021.
Beck reportedly slept in her car after the incident, later receiving an apology letter from Webber but choosing not to escalate the complaint further due to fear of backlash.
Another senior officer, Bombardier Ryan Mason, sent Beck thousands of messages, described as obsessive and unwelcome, in the months leading up to her death.
An Army inquiry in October 2023 concluded that harassment and an unhealthy work environment were likely causal factors in Beck's suspected suicide.
