Inquest Opens Into Death of 9-Month-Old Jonte Bluck in XL Bully Attack

The hearing was adjourned until August 4, 2026 pending ongoing police inquiries.

Overview

  • Area coroner Rose Farmer confirmed Jonte William Bluck was bitten at his father's home in Crossway, Rogiet, on November 2 and died before reaching Grange University Hospital.
  • A provisional cause of death was recorded as a compressive head injury consistent with a dog bite.
  • Gwent Police arrested a man in his 30s and a woman in her 20s on suspicion of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control causing death and of child neglect, then released them on bail.
  • The dog was a six-year-old male black XL bully that had been registered with Defra and held a 2024 exemption certificate, and it was euthanized after the incident.
  • Senior officers urged the public not to speculate online and asked anyone with information about the dog's previous behaviour to contact investigators.
