Inquest Opens Into Death of 16-Year-Old Ellie Hague in Tadcaster Minibus Crash

The coroner has suspended the case pending ongoing police investigations.

Overview

  • Eleanor “Ellie” Hague, a 16-year-old sixth-former, died at the scene after a school minibus and a car collided near Tadcaster Grammar on 1 December.
  • The collision occurred at about 12:28pm at the junction of Toulston Lane and Rudgate and involved a white Mercedes Sprinter minibus and a Hyundai i10.
  • Nine students from Tadcaster Grammar and Sherburn High were aboard; one girl suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and others, including the minibus driver, were treated for minor injuries.
  • The Hyundai’s driver, a 40-year-old woman from Leeds, was arrested on suspicion of causing death and serious injury by dangerous driving and remains on conditional bail.
  • At the inquest opening, the coroner recorded identification by the father and a provisional cause of death of torso injuries, with the hearing adjourned for further police inquiries.
