Overview

• Thomas (Tom) Smith, a 36-year-old father of three from Bolton, fell from the Crib Goch ridge on Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) at about 11:30 a.m. on August 16 and died at the scene.
• Assistant Coroner Sarah Riley opened the inquest in Caernarfon and adjourned it pending completion of further inquiries.
• A search-and-rescue helicopter medic confirmed Smith’s death after teams located him on the ridge.
• Smith’s partner, Shelly Price, has launched a JustGiving fundraiser for the volunteer Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team in his memory.
• Crib Goch is a technical scrambling route linked in reports to one to three fatalities a year, with seven walking deaths recorded in Snowdonia so far this year and Snowdon averaging about eight annually.
