Overview
- The inquest formally began on Monday, 7 September 2026, at the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court and called six witnesses on opening days as the hearing continues.
- Neighbour Robert Stefanutto told the court he found Tembe alive after the fall, said she blinked when asked, and tried to keep her breathing while waiting for paramedics.
- Two police officers testified that room 1004 was in disorder with blood on bedding and towels, a champagne bottle with blood near its neck and a strong smell of alcohol.
- A Pepperclub front-desk employee said Kiernan “AKA” Forbes phoned urgently to ask security to attend because someone stood on the balcony and that she heard a scream followed by a loud bang.
- The inquest was launched after the NPA declined to prosecute; it will hear cellphone records, CCTV and forensic experts to determine circumstances and any negligence while AKA’s family has welcomed the process.
