Inquest Into Death of 13-Year-Old Casey-Louise Horrocks Suspended Until February 2026

Overview

  • Bradford Coroner's Court opened the case and set a new date of 24 February 2026 after granting West Yorkshire Police's request to suspend proceedings.
  • Pathologist Dr Kirsten Hope reported the cause of death as unexplained pending further investigation following an initial post-mortem.
  • Casey-Louise was found unresponsive on 11 August in a 16-year-old boy's bedroom in Huddersfield, suffered four cardiac arrests, and was pronounced dead at Calderdale Royal Hospital at 2:18 a.m. on 12 August.
  • A 16-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of rape and murder in Casey-Louise's case and in relation to an alleged separate rape of another 16-year-old in Kirklees, and he has been released on conditional bail.
  • Tameside Council has begun an urgent safeguarding review as Casey-Louise was in local authority care, and detectives formally identified her from photographic evidence.
