Overview

  • Dr Arunodaya Mohan told the inquest that Paloma Shemirani was diagnosed with early-stage non-Hodgkin lymphoma in December 2023 and given an 80% chance of cure with chemotherapy.
  • Mohan said concerns arose when Paloma’s mother, former nurse Kate Shemirani, called to question steroids and scans and later joined the proceedings to contest evidence.
  • Kate Shemirani was removed from the UK nursing register in 2021 for spreading Covid-19 misinformation and has since promoted unproven therapies such as Gerson therapy to her online audience.
  • The day after initially consenting to standard treatment, Paloma chose a regimen of vegan diets, juicing and coffee enemas and died in July 2024 after a cardiac arrest at her mother’s home.
  • Paloma’s brothers are urging lawmakers to outlaw unregistered medical practice and expand coercive control laws to cover conspiracy-driven health misinformation.
