INPE Tightens Prison Checks as Agents Block Contraband Attempts in Arequipa and Lima

The agency credits intensified visitor screening ordered by Iván Paredes Yataco.

  • At Lima’s Ancón II prison, staff intercepted Violeta Rosas Farfán with a wireless earbud case and stopped Saida Peñaloza Paniagua for concealing black earphones in her intimate area.
  • Prison authorities reported the cases to the Ministerio Público and the Policía Nacional, and in the Ancón II incident they also notified Depincri Puente Piedra to carry out the proceedings.
  • INPE underscored that smuggling prohibited items is punishable with 4 to 6 years under Article 368-A, with higher penalties for weapons or explosives under Article 368-E, as it maintains a zero-tolerance policy.
