Overview
- More than 80 INPE agents carried out coordinated searches at Iquitos Varones, Arequipa Varones and Ancón II and recovered 433 small drug packages known as 'kete' along with cutting tools, USB devices, cables, chargers and handmade pipes.
- Agents used technological equipment and operational tools to inspect cells, belongings and infrastructure and found contraband concealed inside walls, drainage ducts, bed frames, clothing and medicine bottles.
- INPE reported the findings to the Policía Nacional del Perú and the Ministerio Público so criminal investigations and legal procedures can begin.
- The prison authority said it will continue and intensify similar requisas across the penitentiary system using technology to strengthen internal security and detect prohibited items.
