Inmet Issues Red 'Great Danger' Heat‑Wave Alert for Centre–South

Overview

• The Instituto Nacional de Meteorologia raised an aviso vermelho that takes effect Saturday, Sept. 26 and runs through Wednesday, Sept. 30, covering large parts of the Centre–South.
• Forecast models project city peaks around Sept. 27–28, including about 41 °C in Cuiabá, 40 °C in Campo Grande and roughly 32 °C in São Paulo.
• The red alert covers at least parts of eight states and places the entire state of Paraná under the highest danger level, while the extreme south of Goiás is flagged for temperatures above 41 °C in some municipalities.
• Simultaneous yellow storm warnings remain active in other areas, with forecasters warning of heavy rain, gusts up to about 60 km/h and localized hail in parts of Bahia, and health agencies urging hydration and protection for people with heart or lung conditions.
• Meteorologists say the event is driven by a low‑pressure system forming between northern Argentina and western Paraguay together with El Niño tendencies, and they expect a frontal system after Sept. 30 to modify the pattern and lower temperatures.
