Overview
- A cluster of severe convective storms beginning Friday, Oct. 9 produced concentrated, high-impact damage in interior municipalities with reports such as Cesário Lange receiving 110 mm in eight hours and Casa Branca getting about 95 mm in 30 minutes.
- INMET raised a nationwide ‘Perigo’ (danger) alert for Sunday, Oct. 11 that covers many states and warns of rainfall rates of 30–60 mm/hour, winds up to 100 km/h, and possible hail.
- State and local Defesa Civil offices sent targeted warnings by SMS and Cell Broadcast (24 notices reported) and kept municipal teams mobilized to clear fallen trees, secure damaged homes, and coordinate temporary evacuations.
- The storms disrupted services and transport: Viracopos diverted or canceled multiple flights, utilities reported large outages with CPFL saying it restored more than 99% of Campinas customers while crews continue repairs in remaining pockets, and parks and roads remained closed for safety.
- Authorities reported no storm-related deaths in municipal summaries but said families were displaced, property and vehicles were damaged, and officials warned that overloaded drainage and power networks leave communities vulnerable to further intense downpours.
