INMET Issues Overnight Severe Weather Alerts for Amazonas, Acre and Tocantins

Officials urge residents to review safety steps to reduce risks from outages, flooding and lightning.

Overview

  • Alerts are in effect from Tuesday night until 09:00 Wednesday for parts of Amazonas and Acre, and until 10:00 Wednesday for Tocantins, according to INMET.
  • In Southwest and South Amazonas and in Acre’s Juruá and Acre valleys, INMET forecasts rain of 30–60 mm per hour or up to 100 mm per day with wind gusts of 60–100 km/h.
  • The Amazonas–Acre alert cites municipalities such as Atalaia do Norte, Benjamin Constant, Boca do Acre and Cruzeiro do Sul among the areas at risk.
  • For Tocantins, the storm advisory warns of possible hail, rainfall of 20–30 mm per hour or up to 50 mm in a day, and winds of 40–60 km/h across southern, central and western regions.
  • Authorities highlight potential power outages, falling branches and flash flooding, and advise avoiding shelter under trees, keeping vehicles away from transmission towers and billboards, unplugging electronics and contacting Defesa Civil (199) or Corpo de Bombeiros (193) if needed.
