Inmate Escapes from Bronx Hospital During Treatment

Jose Lopez, 37, fled from police custody shortly after a virtual court appearance, prompting a manhunt.

Jose Lopez, a 37-year-old inmate, escaped from NYC Health and Hospitals/Lincoln on Thursday morning while being treated for a leg injury.
Lopez had just been arraigned from his hospital bed on multiple charges, including drug possession and reckless driving, stemming from an August 29th incident.
He was arrested after leading police on a high-speed chase on a gas-powered motorcycle, which ended in a crash and the discovery of narcotics in his possession.
This is not the first escape from Department of Correction custody at a hospital; similar incidents occurred in June and August of previous years.
Police have released a photo of Lopez in hospital garb and are using K-9 units in their search, urging anyone with information to contact the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline.
