Overview

  • NEA said the discolouration occurred on Aug 16 and Aug 23 and that the canal’s colour has returned to normal.
  • The agency attributed the green hue to wash water contaminated with water-based ink that was discharged into the canal.
  • Investigations are ongoing and NEA is assessing enforcement action, with first convictions for unauthorised discharge carrying fines of up to S$20,000.
  • PUB reported no abnormalities in water quality downstream of the Bukit Timah Canal or in Marina Reservoir.
  • Nee Soon GRC MP Jackson Lam highlighted residents’ reports and photos and urged the use of the OneService app for future incidents.
