Overview

  • Fire crews were alerted at 3:37 AM on July 11 after flames erupted in the attic of a house in Gelobtland.
  • Brigades from Gebirge, Pobershau, Marienberg and an aerial ladder unit from Olbernhau contained the blaze and prevented it from spreading.
  • Two occupants, an 84-year-old woman and a 35-year-old man, were rescued, with the latter suffering serious burn injuries.
  • Investigators say findings now indicate the injured man deliberately ignited the fire and have recast the case as suspected arson.
  • Authorities are assessing property damage and collecting further evidence while the man remains hospitalized.
