Overview
- Each host university will receive a complete assembly, test and packaging line valued at about $2 million, plus spare parts, training classrooms, digital platforms and specialized ATP instruction for operators, maintenance staff and faculty.
- The designated sites are the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California, CETYS Universidad, Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León and Universidad de Guadalajara, with a fifth institution in Chihuahua to be confirmed, and access will be open to students nationwide.
- The donation’s execution will run through a fideicomiso structured by Santander with a second bank as fiduciary, with the Iberoamerican Technology Foundation as technical coordinator and added support from Santander Universidades and state governments.
- Organizers estimate the labs will serve around 5,000 students and researchers annually and will integrate with prior faculty development that has trained staff at more than 80 institutions over the past 18 months.
- Officials said 184,000 students are now enrolled in upper-secondary technical programs linked to semiconductors—a 15% year-over-year increase—following the launch of 15 new careers, and they expect further in-kind contributions under a July 31 tax decree that allows full deduction of qualifying donations.
