Inequality Persists: Democracy Under Attack for Black Americans, New Report Finds

Extreme views adopted by some political leaders are threatening democracy for Black Americans, according to a report from the National Urban League.
There has been an increase in hate crimes, efforts to change classroom curriculums, attempts to make voting more difficult, and extremist views being normalized in politics, the military, and law enforcement.
Critical race theory has been a target, with over 670 bills, resolutions, executive orders, opinion letters, statements, and other measures introduced against it in the past year and a half.
Extremism in the military and law enforcement, as well as climate change's disproportionate impact, are also highlighted as concerns.
Hate crimes rose between 2020 and 2021, with African Americans accounting for 30% of incidents where the bias was known.
