- INE’s General Council approved the new voter credential design on August 7, updating both national and overseas cards with cutting-edge security and technological features.
- The redesign incorporates microtext, optically variable elements, thermochromic, termoreactive and infrared inks, high-resolution security patterns and a digital photograph on the reverse side.
- High-density QR codes will complement traditional barcodes to enable rapid authenticity checks and quick access to encrypted voter data.
- A tactile notch will assist visually impaired users, and INE is evaluating the future inclusion of braille inscriptions and personal-status markers such as organ-donor or gender self-identification.
- A public tender has been launched to award the production contract, with manufacturing of the new credentials scheduled to begin in June 2026 ahead of the 2027 federal elections.
