Overview

  • In their first formal meeting on August 26 at the Interior Ministry, the sides agreed to a permanent working group and an initial list of technical topics to study.
  • The agenda to analyze includes election organization, concurrence with judicial votes, implementation timelines, civic education, staff specialization, technology use, fiscal oversight, legal and financial autonomy, transparency and political communication.
  • INE president Guadalupe Taddei said the institute will contribute technical and operational information to ensure any changes can be implemented with certainty for voters.
  • Commission chair Pablo Gómez said no legislative text is being written at this stage and announced public hearings and an online registration portal to open in the coming days.
  • Senior officials attended, including Rosa Icela Rodríguez, José Antonio Peña Merino, Lázaro Cárdenas Batel, Jesús Ramírez Cuevas and Arturo Zaldívar, along with nine INE councilors.
